Dan Hasby-Oliver  Author of Last Style of Defense www.laststyleofdefense.com, one of the UK’s hottest blogs – as well as being the proven 6th most influential menswear blogger in the world

1. Introduce yourself.

My name is Dan and I am a 24 year old blogger and freelance fashion journalist from the UK. I live  predominately in the South-West of England, surrounded by some of England’s hottest boutiques,  but spend a lot of time in London for work and leisure time. I have a background in nightlife event’s promotion and organization as well as public relations, and have been a journalist for five years and a blogger for one and a half. I have a passion for Creative Recreation and Converse sneakers, the
label Unconditional and the cities Los Angeles and New York, as well as a loathing for heights and root vegetables.

2. What’s about your blog?

Last Style of Defense focuses on menswear and unisex clothing and accessories from the UK, USA and Europe with a focus on new, young or not-so-well-known designers from London. It looks at news from the area’s of fashion and lifestyle as well as events I have been too such as store launches, London Fashion Week parties and often just a day out to somewhere interesting. From September 2010, I also extended coverage to Los Angeles, USA which I see as one of the most important centers of fashion outside of Europe. This is reported by Robert Boyer, who has accessed some incredible people and found some great labels, and is then edited by myself.

3. What do you think is the relationship between fashion and technology?

I think the relationship between fashion and technology has not only been of great importance and progression, but also detrimental. Whilst we have discovered and developed incredible new fabrics and amazing new production techniques, this has opened up the ‘disposable fashion’ market, undermining quality brands/labels and producers. It is incredible that were are now able to buy clothing online or on the TV in a matter of minutes, as well as read magazines on the iPad however could this be the death of the printed word?

4. How do you see the future of fashion?

I see the future of fashion will be that of two parts. Firstly, established high end brands and labels, such as Gucci and Hermes, will continue to be popular. Secondly, with the ever changing world of fashion and technology, we will see a fall in small labels and brands as people opt for high-street and ‘disposable’ fashion brands. This will be a sad time for the industry. Further more, I think there will be a rise in publications going exclusively online and perhaps end hard-copy magazines. For me personally? I will hopefully get a great job at an American based fashion and lifestyle magazine.
